About the Webmaster

Hey. My name is Bernardo Malfitano, and this is my website. Well, one of my websites...

I wrote all the text on this website, drew/photographed almost all of the images, and designed the webpages and coded the HTML.

So, you want to know a little about me? I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and from an early age showed a fascination with aircraft. Between airliners taking off and landing at the local airport, helicopters constantly flying all over the city (and based at a heliport close to my home), and formations of F-5s and AMX jets buzzing the city at least twice a year, I had plenty of chances to fall in love with the adrenaline rush of seeing and hearing these exciting machines being operated. Through my education, I was motivated to learn math and science since almost every new concept revealed something about how aircraft worked. I built and flew model planes and model rockets, went to airshows, drew airplanes, and did get to fly in airliners pretty often. I have to say, I’m still surprised at how bored people are while sitting inside a tube of aluminum that is roaring through the air at 600 miles per hour, several miles above the ground, pushed by thousands of pounds of thrust from burning tons of kerosene, lifted by huge metal wings.

I graduated from the British School of Rio de Janeiro with an IB Diploma. I then attended Stanford University and majored in Mechanical Engineering with a special focus on aerodynamics, extra classes on propulsion and thermodynamics and materials, and plenty of work on controls and heat transfer and manufacturing.

At Stanford, I created, wrote, and taught a class about aviation technology. The contents of this class were compiled into a textbook, and that material (along with movies shown in the class, and some more extra stuff) eventually became this website. You can read more about the origins of this website here.

I am currently an aerospace engineer with Boeing and living in southern California.

I am not a pilot yet, but I have taken a few classes, and plan on having my Private Pilot’s Certificate in a few months. Until then, I’ll have to be content with simulators, RC airplanes, and flying as a passenger.

My main hobbies are web design, aviation photography, aviation art, and writing. You can find my favorite aviation photographs at AirShowFan.com, and plenty of photography advice (how to choose a digital camera, and how to take good pictures) at EasyPhotography.info. More information about me (such as my exciting and detailed life story, and links to my profiles on MySpace and Facebook and Match.com and Orkut and so on) can be found on my personal webpage.

If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, criticisms, or if you just want to say “Hi”, please email me at AirShowFan@Gmail.com

Thanks for visiting my site! (Now go visit the other ones! And tell your friends!)

Valeu!
